What You Want is a contemporary novel about a young woman who heads off on a cross-country road trip with two male friends. You can call it Women's Fiction or New Adult if you're into labels. I like to think of it as a story about a young woman who's trying to figure out what she wants, just like we all are.

 

If you've found this page after reading my Newfoundland historical novels (published by Breakwater Books): this is not quite like that. It's set in the present day, and while it starts here in St. John's, Newfoundland, my characters quickly take the road west for a new adventure.

 

If you're here because you've read my inspirational fiction (published by Review and Herald or Pacific Press): this is not like that either. Megan's spiritual journey, as a young woman who grew up in church and then lost her faith, is a central theme of the novel, but this is not a book that would fit comfortably on the shelves of Christian bookstore the way my novels about Bible characters do. 

 

But What You Want is like my other books -- in that it's a character-driven story that takes the reader on a journey. I hope when you read it, you'll come to love these characters as much as I do.
