This is, of course, the original Peter Pan statue. It was commissioned by J. M. Barrie, author of Peter Pan, was sculpted by George Frampton, and was unveiled in 1912. You can read about the history of the original statue, including why this specific location in Kensington Gardens was chosen for it, at this offiical site here.

The photo above is a favourite of mine. It's from the summer of 2006, when our children, Chris and Emma, were 8 and 6 years old and we took them on what seemed, to them, like an endless walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, looking for the Peter Pan statue. Just as we arrived (finally!) at the spot, I dropped my digital camera on the ground. This was before we all had cameras on our phones, and I freaked out a little, thinking that after coming all that way I wouldn't be able to get a picture! My daughter Emma tried to calm me by saying, "After all, Mom, it's not like one of your children died!"

Happy ending: my husband Jason fixed the camera, we got our picture, and the original Peter Pen still stands looking out over Kensington Gardens. I went back in 2018 to check on him.
