ABOUT ME

I’m the author of the Cupids Trilogy (A Roll of the Bones, Such Miracles & Mischiefs, books 1 & 2) as well as Most Anything You Please, A Sudden Sun, That Forgetful Shore, and By the Rivers of Brooklyn -- all works of historical fiction set in Newfoundland. I’ve also written several books of inspirational fiction, many of which are re-imaginings of Bible stories. These include Esther: A Story of Courage, James: The Brother of Jesus, and Lydia: A Story of Philippi.

In the rest of my life, I’m a mom to two young adults, wife to Jason, and admissions co-ordinator at a wonderful adult-education program called The Murphy Centre.

I live in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the place where I was born, and consider myself a Newfoundlander first and a Canadian second. I attend the same church my parents took me to when I was a child; I sometimes describe myself as a Seventh-day Adventist who doubts, questions, and loves her church dearly. I like to think and talk about all kinds of things, so if you want to keep up on how I see the world and what’s happening with me, check out my personal blog.

Two fun facts about this page: the picture of me you see here was taken in Port Union, Newfoundland, where part of my novel A Sudden Sun is set -- a town with a fascinating history! The background picture that appears on this website was taken in the old house in Coley's Point, Newfoundland, where much of  That Forgetful Shore is set. I love the image of the old classic jug, basin and washstand, but I especially love the peeling layers of old wallpaper, because the idea of peeling away layers of the past to reveal what's hidden beneath is a common thread in so many of my stories.
